DIRECTING COCKTAIL-INSPIRED CABARET 'THE GENTLEMAN'S COMPANION'
AT LOUIE LOUIE

March 31, 2022

I'm directing the doyenne of Canberra cabaret, Dianna Nixon, in a one-night-only performance of a spanking new solo show, at Verity Lane Market's upstairs cocktail bar, Louie Louie. Learn a thing or two about the art of the cocktail (and then forget it as you drink 'em), while the dazzling Mz Nixon belts out some top-drawer tunes from the likes of Metallica, Meatloaf and Radiohead, in The Gentleman's Companion. Dianna stands ready with glass in hand and a voice that will rumble, soar, chat and cry in this solo gambol inspired by Charles H Baker's delicious 1939 tome of instructions for satisfying imbibement and degustation.

I adore cabaret, and have had a few cabaret projects of my own in the past that never quite came together, so I'm thrilled to have been asked by Dianna to assist with a dramaturgical and directorial eye to help shape her show. Directing is becoming an evermore prevalent part of my practice, and I'm savouring these recent opportunities to help performers soar.

The Gentleman's Companion is part of Good Company, supported by You Are Here and ACT Government through the Creative Recovery and Resilience Program.
