Nolan Ferris Wheel.jpg

This week, I joined Canberra Museum & Gallery's Senior Curator, Virginia Rigney, to deliver a floor talk for families about Sidney Nolan's relationship to his childhood home of St. Kilda and its local amusement park, Luna Park. It was a great chance to bring some physicality (and quite a lot of noise) to a museum setting, as we explored the movement dynamics of fairground rides with a group of enthusiastic children and parents.

I've always been fascinated by the relationships between different artistic mediums, and the map of movement that's traced in even the most static of artworks. In transposing memories into movement, then drawings, and back again, we were able to encourage a more embodied, intuitive and playful relationship to  Nolan's paintings, and perhaps make them that little bit more accessible for younger visitors.
