PLAYING CARAVAGGIO IN 'CHIAROSCURO' READING
November 1, 2020
I'll be on stage, and playing a terrific role, that of the brooding genius, Caravaggio, in Chiaroscuro, a new play by Canberran playwright, David Atfield - the only drawback is, it'll be in an empty theatre... but hey, I've done the Edinburgh Fringe, so nothing I haven't seen before. This rehearsed reading for Canberra's Pride festival, SpringOUT, will be streamed online at springout.com.au in November as part of the digital content for this year's festival.
Chiaroscuro imagines a relationship between the painter, Caravaggio, and a handsome street hustler, Gregorio, who is posing for his painting The Raising of Lazarus’. The painting begins to transform as the two men fall in love and Caravaggio begins to question everything about his life and art.
